The boom of neural networks and the surge of scientific publications on the use of artificial intelligence in various fields, as well as numerous articles on the experience of interacting with chatbots are increasingly involving researchers from different countries in the process of understanding the role of smart technologies and their impact on the future of education and science, including sociology. Among the numerous technologies of the future, ChatGPT already stands out most clearly, thanks to which a wide discussion has unfolded about the ethical principles of using artificial intelligence in research and including it in co-authors of scientific articles. Despite this, a number of researchers, like the author of this article, turned to a hybrid format of scientific publications — an interview with a neural network. This involves not just a scientific dialogue with ChatGPT, but also fixing the reflection of the researcher himself in the course of the study, as well as a critical analysis of the responses of the neural network, which is demonstrated in the proposed article. The topic for discussion was housing sociology. Despite the lack of agreement among researchers on many aspects of this area of research, the neural network was quite confident and in a short period of time was able to identify the object and subject, the main paradigms and methods of sociological research in the housing sector. Separately, questions were raised about the relationship between housing sociology and related disciplines. In the final part of the interview, ChatGPT gave recommendations on the study of housing sociology, and also formulated the reasons for the slow development of this area in Russia. The author of the article concludes that the further development of neural networks using the example of ChatGPT will seriously change the approach to higher education and scientific research in the very near future.
